The Victoria County History is one of the world’s longest-running research projects, exploring England’s rich local history.
Founded in 1899 and dedicated to Queen Victoria, it is a national project to write an authoritative, encyclopaedic history of every county in England, from the earliest archaeological records to the present day.
The first two volumes for Dorset were published in 1908 and 1968. After a very long hiatus, we have now established a charitable trust and have begun to work on parish histories for the county.
